What is the California Proposition 65?
California Proposition 65, also known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, is a law that requires companies to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that can cause cancer, birth defects or any other reproductive harm.
Companies that sell products or provide services in California are required to comply with Proposition 65 regulations by either providing a warning to consumers about the presence of listed chemicals or demonstrating that the exposure level is below a safe harbor level.
bQb-Cert is an approved Proposition 65 certification body that helps companies make sure that their products or services comply with Proposition 65 regulations.
What does California Proposition 65 evaluate?
California Proposition 65 requires warnings for products with chemicals that may cause cancer or reproductive harm. It lists over 900 such chemicals and sets ‘safe harbor’ levels for some. If products meet these levels, no warning is needed. The law covers a variety of consumer goods sold in California.
